It has been a long day although a good one. I was thankful for sunshine and milder temperatures. After making some calls, checking the mail at the office and admiring the growing pile of diapers in our narthex, I even took a nice walk. I hope you were able to do the same. I am a bit tired today so sent a text to my sister telling her that I would likely not be sending a reflection today. I decided on a glass of wine and some quiet time in our gazebo instead. But I didn’t go out there alone, no, I took my computer and my ELW (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, aka our hymnal) and as I paged through the “evening” section I came across an old favorite, the Tallis’ Canon.
Here are the words I needed to read this evening. I hope they feed you as well.
All praise to thee, my God this night for all the blessings of the light. Keep me, oh keep me, King of kings, beneath thine own almighty wings. Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son, the ill that I this day have done; that with the world, myself, and thee, I, ere I sleep, at peace may be. Teach me to live, that I may dread the grave as little as my bed. Teach me to die, that so I may, rise glorious at the awesome day. Oh, may my soul in thee repose, and may sweet sleep mine eyelids close, sleep that shall me more vigorous make, to serve my God when I awake! Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God all creatures here below.; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
[ELW 565 All Praise to Thee, My God, This Night]
Have a good night dear ones.
I miss you.
